Today, I stand before you on this auspicious occasion to tell you about one of India's most iconic conservation programs, Project Tiger. As Project Tiger celebrates his 51st anniversary, we are delighted to share our progress in protecting and preserving our majestic national animal, the Royal Bengal Tiger.
The Govt. of India had launched “Project Tiger” on 1st April 1973 to promote conservation of the tiger.
Since its inception in 1972, Project Tiger has become a major conservation program in India. Our efforts focus on creating pristine spaces, effectively protecting tigers and their habitats, and engaging local communities in conservation efforts. Today, I can proudly say that our joint efforts have paid off and the results are visible. As of April 2023, the Indian tiger population has increased significantly. In 2006 there were 1,411 tigers, now he has over 3,000 wild tigers. This is an amazing achievement and a testament to our commitment to conservation.
As part of Project Tiger, we expanded tiger sanctuaries across the country, creating safer places for tigers to thrive. We have stepped up our anti-poaching efforts, enhanced patrols and surveillance, and used the latest technology to combat wildlife crime. It also engages local communities in conservation efforts, providing sustainable and compatible livelihoods for tiger conservation.
Our conservation efforts have not only contributed to an increase in tiger populations, but have also led to the recovery of several other wildlife species that share tiger habitat. This has helped protect entire ecosystems such as forests, rivers and grasslands that are essential to maintaining a healthy balance in nature.
But while we applaud the achievements so far, we also recognize the challenges ahead. Habitat loss, poaching and human-wildlife conflicts continue to pose threats to tigers. Climate change is also a serious problem that can affect tiger habitats and prey bases. We must remain vigilant and continue our efforts to ensure a secure future for tigers.
Going forward, our focus will be on improving habitat connectivity, increasing community participation, and improving conservation efforts. We also work with international partners and organizations to share knowledge, expertise and resources for tiger conservation on a global scale.
Dear citizens, the tiger is not only a symbol of our national heritage, but also an indicator of the health of our ecosystem. Our commitment to tiger conservation is not only about saving the species, but also about preserving the natural heritage for future generations. We invite you to join us in this noble cause and contribute to a better future for tigers and the planet.

आगे बढ़ते हुए, हमारा ध्यान आवास संपर्क में सुधार, सामुदायिक भागीदारी बढ़ाने और संरक्षण प्रयासों में सुधार लाने पर होगा। हम वैश्विक स्तर पर बाघ संरक्षण के लिए ज्ञान, विशेषज्ञता और संसाधनों को साझा करने के लिए अंतरराष्ट्रीय भागीदारों और संगठनों के साथ भी काम करते हैं।
